Slow Startup on pentium 4
yeah
im falling asleep while fc3 boots i have a pentium 4 @ 3.0 ghz w/ hyperthreading and fedora takes about 5-8 minutes to startup. on my red hat 9 server with a pentium 2 booting with x and kde takes 1-3 minutes also, i have done a total update of everything last week, but i didnt solve a thing i think it might be that fedora is not using full cpu power finally, linux sees my proc as 2 because of hyperthreding thanks in advance ;) |
It might be trying to resolve a DNS name (like for ntp support) but if no network connection is up then the ntp daemon will hang until timeout (which could be a very long time). Where in the boot process specifically are the hangups occuring?

its on the 3rd line
it goes "storage" then hangs for a minute then it goes "network" then same then "audio" then same after that its black for about 1-2 mins then goes to gui after x is up and then goes thru the starup without a hitch but goes slowly in the process of that logging into kde or gnome goes very quickly:Pengy: |
