Slow internet connection compared with windows

Hi,

I am currently running Fedora 14 and have noticed that in comparison to windows 7, I have a slow internet connection. I have BTInfinity and the download speed I get on my windows 7 machine is ~37MB/s. Conversely, the download speed I get on my Fedora 14 machine is ~4-5MB/s. I have tried both speedtest.net and broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk. The results are consistent.

Up until 2 days ago, I had Fedora 16 installed and the speed was still slower on that setup i.e. ~4-5MB/s. I downgraded to Fedora 14 due to some incompatibility issues with some apps while on F16.

I have done a search and have not been able to find a definitive answer for the slower speed on my Fedora setup. Here is the output of my resolv.conf:

# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
domain home
search home
nameserver 192.168.1.254
#

As suggested in another thread, I also tried a ping by name and then IP address but noticed no difference:

# ping -Uc4 bbc.com
PING bbc.com (212.58.224.138) 56(84) bytes of data.

Does my resolv.conf nedd different entries?

I would appreciate any hints or tips.

Thanks.

Is this wired or wireless?
Try to disable ipv6
Try to use another DNS, like 8.8.8.8 (google), open dns or the DNS from your provider.
Try to remove
Quote:

domain home
search home
From your resolv.conf

Kind regards

Repo,

Thanks for your response.

This is a wired connection. I tried your suggestions, but still slow speed. I changed nameserver to 8.8.8.8. I restarted NetworkManager after making these changes.

Output of lspci -vnn:

AFAIK this will revert to the old DNS.
Did you do the other things? (disable ipv6...)

Kind regards

I disabled ipv6 and even disbaled selinux but still slow speeds via speedtest.net. Current download/upload speed on Windows 7 is 33.88Mbs/1.58Mbs. Fedora 14 - 4.36Mbs/1.68Mbs

I feel your pain. I'm having the same problem running KDE. Love Fedora but ~!@#!! It's !@#$ annoying!!!
