slow internet

I just installed Fedora and everythign works, except the internet is slow.

My connection can gets up to 170 kb/s using Windows or other Linux distros, but on Fedora it tops out at 115 kb/s. I know the server I'm downloading from (Fileshack subscriber server) is capable of going much higher.

Whenever I load a page in Mozilla, the browser stalls on "Resolving host <address>" for about 20 seconds before the page loads.

Pinging my router and google delivers normal results.

I'm using DSL through a router with DHCP. My network card is an Intel "PRO/100 VE"

Thank you for your help.

For the name resolving issue, you should check whether you have your router's IP in /etc/resolv.conf, or are there really the dns-servers' IPs.

It usually helps to have the real DNS-addresses there.

I've never had any speed issues when comparing linux and windows, and it doesn't seem very probable that the linux drivers for your network card would decrease your download rate, considering you have a 10/100 card and 170kB/s isn't anywhere near 100Mbit/s (nor 10Mbit/s).
