bakwas_internet,
Same exact problem here. Also I find that when mousing over and selecting different things on the K-menu there's a noticable performace lag. Fedora 1 with kernel 2.6.1. It comes and goes, sometimes it does it a couple times a minute, sometimes it's fine for hours. I find that when it happens, if you hit Esc or Control after about 5 or 10 seconds it'll unstick it... which is a workaround, but still sucks. Sometimes when I want to launch a program I have to do this two or three times before it'll actually launch. Also I find that sometimes when I try to minimize or open a window using the taskbar, I have to click two or three times before it actually opens. I bet the two probelms are related. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but if anyone has a solution I'd love to hear it. |
i just built a fedora core 1 box without kde, just gnome. i will install kde 3.2 (no upgrade) and see if i have the same issues, i'll post sometime tomorrow.

jsmarshall85,
If that works for you that's probably a good route to go. I'm a newbie to running Linux on the desktop--this is my first system--and things have been going pretty well otherwise. It's strange that no one else seems to run into this--I've got a very stock install, nothing different at all except kernel 2.6.1 and a bunch of multmedia apps installed. If I keep the same installation do you think upgrading to 2.6.2 is a good idea? Thanks for the help. |
I was having the freeze up problem after I upgraded to KDE 3.2 what I did to cure it was to login to a Gnome session and rename the .kde folder to .kde.old then I logged back into kde and let it create a new folder. I haven't had any problems with it since(knock on wood). YMMV but its something for you to try.
