simultaneous sounds in core 2

Hey everyone I have a problem with my sound in Fedora Core 2, I can't play 2 sounds at once. For instance say I'm listening to music and chatting on GAIM, the GAIM sounds will not play while a song is playing then as soon as the song is over........all the GAIM sounds that should have played go off. I know my soundcard supports simultaneous sounds because I had windows for a while before switching over. Thanks for any help

The simultaneous sounds bit working in windows isn't really pertinent. The open source drivers for your sound card might not support multiple sounds, while the windows drivers do.

A good example of this is anything with the Nforce 2 motherboard's Soundstorm audio solution.

So what are the sound cards which supports simultaneous sounds in linux?
