simple but i don't know--exit the X server

how does one exit the X server?

i'm trying to instal latest nvidia drivers and it says i have to do it not in the X server.

open a terminal...type su -

then type telinit 3 once done type telinit 5 to return back to GUI

Re: exiting Xserver

Cntrl-Alt-BACKSPACE. That should exit X. Then, when you are done with installing the drivers, type "exit". If you are currently Su or Root , you will need to type "exit" twice (once to exit super-user and once to get back to X).
