Several ongoing problems with Fedora 9

I have been using Fedora 9 (installed from liveCD kde 4) since a week or so after the official release and sinced day 1 I have had more problems then any fedora release previous.

1. Enabling dual monitors makes machine unusuable. By unuseable I mean that the computer slows down so much that a minute or to after moving the mouse you will see the cursor move. The only method I have found for enabling dual monitors is through Nvidia Display Settings. I cant immediately remember how I did it previously but I do know I have never had a hiccup enabling both monitors before.

2. XMMS randomly gives error message "Couldn't open audio. Please check that: Your soundcard is configured properly You have the correct output plugin selected No other program is blocking the soundcard." This happens after booting the computer and nothing other then rebooting several times solves this. I have never tweaked any settings, and everything is configured correctly to my knowledge. This error happens when no programs that should be using sound are open.

3. This problem is more of one regarding OpenJDK/IcedTea: Most if not all of my programming assignments call for using the Scanner object. To my knowledge hasn't been implemented in the OpenJDK. Is it there and I am missing something or should I wipe it and go to Java's website and reinstall the newest version of JDK?

4. After installing a new program, it takes one full reboot before it appears in the KDE4 menu(not sure of the technical name). Is this behavior as designed, a bug, or a configuration problem?

Machine specs:
Nvidia 6600 (both monitors run on this card) Currently using Livna Drivers
AMD 2200+ XP
Asus A7N8x

Machine is fully updated as of 14:33 PST Sunday July 27, 2008 for all packages installed.

Frankly, I would ascribe most of you issues to KDE4 rather than Fedora. I use Fedora 9 with Gnome and I can use dual screens just fine.

I can't really answer your jdk question as the first thing I did was rip out openJDK and install the Sun jdk instead.

Jay,

That certainly makes sense, although I really do like dolphin and the general look and feel of kde4. I got fed up and reinstalled fedora8 last night and got up and running pretty quick. Had a few driver issues at first but I think I'm solid now. I think I am going to wait until I hear some positive feedback on the next stable release on kde4 before moving up. I would use gnome but honestly I just can't stand it.
