setting up intranet site (eg: http://something)

I'm wondering if with HTTPD there is a way to configure it such that I can have several intranet sites. For example, instead of typing "http:/ /localhost" I can type something like "http:/ /mysite". It's not a dot com -- I don't want it to be accessible by external sources.

Any help is appreciated!

If you set-up the hosts files on the other computers, it should work without any problems.

You can always access a computer using it's IP... http://192.168.0.1 A hosts file is like your networks phonebook... It has listings of IP addressesses and host-names to make it simpler than having to type in the IP.

Anytime you type in a host-name, the computer checks your hosts file, then any DNS computer it knows. So, I can ping 64.179.4.146, or ping www.linuxquestions.org, and it will reach the same computer.

Cool, thanks :)

What you said made me realize what I need to do. I opened up my Network Configuration window, went to the "Hosts" menu, and added a new entry with the system's local IP address, the "Name" value with what I want to type into the browser URL bar, and any alias to do the same. Thanks for the help!
