Setting up a RAID

I'm in a class where I have the option of using Linux. Right now, I have to set up a machine with whatever OS I want, and I was wondering if Fedora 9 can do software RAID? If so, which RAID types can it support?

Yes, it supports RAID 0,1,4,5,6 and 10.

Now for my next question

How would one go about setting up a software RAID using Fedora 9? I use it as a desktop OS and haven't seen the need to use a RAID. Any help would be appreciated.

The easiest way is to configure it during the install process. Failing that, you're left with creating partitions (not filesystems) that can be configured into a RAID using mdadm (run "man mdadm").

There is plenty of doco around for this, so Google is your friend here.
