Question Setting Flow Control/Media Type

I recently installed FC2 to A Dell Precision 610 workstation & been unable to get YUM or Up2date to work smoothly. Up2Date halts with a 403 status message indicating forbiden.
When I run yum update, it seems like I can download all the header info. The real problems begin when I try to download all the updates. Essentially, the process crawls & ultimately stops with a message indicating my connection was reset by the peer. I've been looking over ifconfig & it seems like I've got a fair amount of errors associated with the interface. This leads me to believe the nic isn't set properly. Is it possible to set it manually to 100Mbs/half-duplex? Thanks in advance, Rick
