scsi tape module

i am having the problem where a piece of software that i am using (tapeware) needs to have the scsi_tape module removed before it will see the scsi devices. (it uses the sg module). my problem is -- i have to do this after every reboot and i would like to find where the module is being loaded. i don't really want to recompile the kernel - or try to recompile the modules from sources as i don't have those sources anymore... but if that is the only way then i'm up for it. just looking for easier options first

I think that in Fedora the modules are loaded in /etc/modprobe.conf
