Screensavers do not turn on

Ok, I've seen many threads discussing how to install the missing screensavers of Fedora Core 4. I've done that, but no matter what I still can't get the screensavers to turn on after the timeout that I set in the preferences. The screensavers do come on, but only when I lock the screen. I'd like to not have to always lock the screen in order for the screensavers to come on. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.

see if it still happens with the mouse physically disconnected. Also turn the screen power management off.
