Scan a document and save as PDF

I can scan a document, but it will only let me save as a out.pnm.
how can i scan and save it as a PDF ?

I have to to send the documents to a Windows Computer and Windows can't read a .pnm file.

imagemagick will convert pnm files to jpg.

Also graphicsmagick will convert pnm files to pdf.

what make of scanner ?
what software are you using to scan ?

why not just go to print the pnm image file ( say in gimp )
and "print to pdf"

that saves a pdf file

or

Libreoffice can save as a pdf
and gimp can save as a pdf

I just discovered that to Open out.pnm file to Libreoffice Writer and Export it as a PDF.
