sata_sil module not loaded at startup

OK, so I've got an Adaptec SATAConnect ASH-1205SA card and I"m running FC2. I'm using a Seagate 160GB SATA drive connected to it for storage, not booting. I'm booting from an ATA drive.

The controller card's chipset is supported and the controller card shows up in the Hardware Browser following boot, but the required driver, sata_sil, is not loaded automagically at startup. As such, using /sbin/fdisk does not show the drive. However, I *can* simply manually load the sata_sil module follwoing boot with /sbin/modprobe sata_sil and the drive then shows up as /dev/sda.

I'm wondering if anyone knows why the hardware scan during boot is not properly recognizing the card and automagically loading the required module? It's odd that the card will show up in the Hardware Browser but not have its driver loaded. The Hardware Browser even indicates that the controller card's driver is sata_sil. However, doing a /sbin/lsmod definitely confirms that the module does not get loaded at boot.

Any thoughts?

Look in /etc/modeprob.conf and see if something fishy related to the driver is in there, like a “remove” for the driver.

In any case, just add an alias to /etc/modprobe.conf and the problem should be solved.
