Run Away Process: bamfdaemon

I've noticed over the past week or so that the process bamfdaemon is continuously running and consuming significant resources. This process will take up a processor and run my battery down to 0 in minutes (~30 minutes). Any ideas on how correct this?

After doing some reading about this daemon I found that this pkg contains the daemon used by the library and a gio module that facilitates the matching of application started through the GDestopAppinfo.

It depends on gtk3 and all of these lib's listed here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/libs/bamfdaemon

Shame you just can't remove it but unfortunately you can't as it has other dependencies that are already most likely installed on your system. Do a little research you might be able to remove it afterall.

Maybe try stopping the daemon and see if that helps.
http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man8...-daemon.8.html

Write a script to control it-

You can use CPU load generator together with a CPU load limiter.
You might be able to use the cpulimit cmd to pause the process. I've never tried it, sorry.

IF none of that works for you hang in there. I'm sure other members will chime in.

Thank you for you indepth analysis! Yea, I can't kill it ... it apparently generates the linkages between things and, in one circumstance, causes plank to go completely screwy.

I will look at the other options (control it looks interesting). I also, keep checking for updates to see if that will address this.

You're Welcome.
Always glad to help.

Not sure how to put bamfdaemon to bed but there's got to be a way to make it chill out.
If I find anything I'll post it for you.

If you had to you could study what each lib's function is (and all those dependencies are) and that might help you to figure out how to control it. Sadly some lib's you can't get rid of as they are little engines that make other things tic.

Good Luck-
