rpm's are installed anywhere. the contents of them is. and those content go to all the standard locations all over your system, depending on wether they are configuration files, libraries, executables, documentation etc...
often RPM software will go under /usr/ (/usr/bin /usr/share /usr/lib...) whereas source installs will tend to go to /usr/local (/usr/local/bin/...) but this is generally not important, and just tends to serve as a distinction between officially distributed pacakges and ones you installed yourself.
