rpc.idmapd cannot find user nobody

I booted up my Linux machine today and I got the following error message in /var/log/messages; rpc.idmapd cannot find user "nobody". For some reason now, I get two failures on bootup, one is the rpc.idmapd and the other is on the HAL. Does anyone know what may be the problem? I double checked to ensure that user and group nobody does exist.

I was able to fix the problem by turning off SELinux but I'm not sure how this could affect the startup of these services. If anyone knows, please fill me in.
