root keeps taking ownership of ~/.Xauthority

This problem only seems to happen to me in Fedora, and it's happened at least since fc2, and I think it used to happen in fc3, too. I'll reboot or log out for some reason, and when I go to log in my session immediately terminates because root has taken permission of my ~/.Xauthority file. I used to not know what caused me to end my sessions so I'd reformat. I've since figured it out but I still have to set the gid and uid which is annoying.

Any of you cats know what I am doing to make this happen or how I can avoid it? Thanks!

Right you are. I'm thinking it has to do with my use of sudo, because it's affecting MY profile. I thought maybe this was happening to lots of people because it sure happens to me a lot, at home AND at work.
