Resolution Problems

Hey, I just installed Fedora Core 3, and its working pretty well but i have a few problems. I am trying to change my normal users resolution to 1024x768. If i use the gui tool, it asks for my root password, works fine, then asks me to restart x. So i restart x and it fakes like its 1024x768 for a few seconds then it totaly goes back to 800x600. The wierd thing is my root login works perfectly at 1024x768. I edited my xorg.conf file to only include "1024x768" but even that doesnt work. Do you have any ideas how to fix this - its really driving me crazy. Oh yeah, and Up2Date strait up doesnt work on this computer. It just hangs after a little bit and messes up, any idea on how to fix that? Thanks,

Petes

Re: update

You can download apt-get to update your system, also you can type (logged in as root) yum update.

I get a similar issue after installing the Nvidia driver it doesn't allow me to use 1280x1024, it says its using 1280x1024 but its really on 800x600. System up to date. When I take off the "nvidia" in xorg.conf it actually changes the resolution to 1280x1024...Weird.
