resizing partitions problems

I cannot resize my linux partitions:

- there is not linux tool available on FC4 for resizing partitions.

- I have tried downloading some software but come up with dependenciy problems

- Then I tried launching a knoppix live cd , and using qparted, the trouble is , al linux partitions cannot be resized, the "resize" option does not seem to be enabled. Then I tried unmounting , to see if it was of any help: umount -a , then the message I got back for all the partitions" device is busy"

- I have tried with Partition Magic 8, but it reads, it is not compatible with the FS... my FS is EXT 3.... and other friends says Partition should be able to deal with these type of partitions.....

Thank you for helping this poor newbie

You can use fdisk or cfdisk in the command line... Did you unmount the drive with force (root)? You'll have to run partition magic as root do be able to do anything.
