reconfiguring kernel after motherboard upgrade.

Ok. I switched from AMD64 Nforce3 motherboard to intel conroe motherboard which has VIA chipset.

I installed my 64-bit fc6 using AMD motherboard and then switched to current motherboard. Problem is that system loads sata driver modules for old motherboard like sata_sil and sata_nv. I commented those modules out in modules.conf file but still those modules get loaded everytime I boot my system. There must be a way to configure needed modules afterhardware upgrade. I mean other than reinstalling fc6.

Not saying this will work, but did you trying booting from CD, and then selecting the "Upgrade" option.

Other than digging deeply into all the directories looking for drivers to replace, you might try upgrading, or a clean install. The Nvidia driver approach is material different than VIA's. There are different pieces that run different things with each vendor's silicon. They bridge AGP/PCIe differently, Nvidia uses something called SMbus (I believe) and VIA does something else yet again to connect all their I/O

I just found a viaideinfo tool in the FC6 package manager GUI. It is under system tools. Maybe you could load this and see if the system sees the drivers ?????

Code:
lsmod | grep -i via
via_rhine 61773 0
mii 39233 1 via_rhine
sata_via 44741 1
libata 143849 1 sata_via
So VIA sata drives do get loaded. Problem is that also nv_sata gets also loaded and that module ( luckily ) isn't compiled into kernel.

Now I would like to try that upgrade option. But does that work ? I mean there isn't newer kernel or fedora version available. Doesn't it just check how new my kernel is and if there aren't any newer kernel available it will quit ?
