I currently have alsa-lib, alsa-utils, and alsa-driver-1.0.4 installed on my Fedora Core 3. Fedora still does not see my Realtek High Definition sound device. I was able to get sound working once with the help of a specific website but have lost that site after reformatting and haven't been able to find it since. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Alsa has Realtek drivers. My laptop is ALL Realtek and everything works. That's a Debian installation, and if I remember right, the Alsa Drivers are 1.08. Realtec has recently open-sourced all their stuff. There is even a sourceforge project getting their wireless network card to work. I haven't tried to get it working yet, tho

My current kernel is 2.6.11-1.14_FC3.
From what I understand my sound card is an on board Realtek High Definition audio device. I'm not sure about the chip set, but my computer is an HP if that helps.
I finally remembered what I need to do to make alsa work, so I figured I would post it for anyone else that has the same problem. I need to configure the alsa driver as follows:
Originally posted by jenkinsMcTipsy I currently have alsa-lib, alsa-utils, and alsa-driver-1.0.4 installed on my Fedora Core 3. Fedora still does not see my Realtek High Definition sound device.
I also had this problem some time ago with my Mandrake. The solutions in simple: You need alsa 1.0.8. This alsa version will automaticaly recognize Intel High Definition Audio after you type alsaconf. It had problems reinstalling alsa, so I needed to change to the newer Mandriva LE 2005 in order to get alsa running.
Hey Jenkins, I believe I have the same motherboard as you do Intel 915PBL, and i'm having issues with my onboard sound. I have downloaded and installed alsa-drivers 1.0.8/ alsa utils/ alsa tools/ alsa libs/ alsa oss to no a avail. can you tell me exactly what you did to get your onboard sound to work, i would appreciated. I hate working and not be able to listen to some music, thanks in advance
