question about yum/apt

when using apt or yum to see update it gives a list of stuff that it will update... i saw that it will also upgrade to a newer kernel [i am using redhat 9]

i dont want to upgrade to a new kernel

is there a way to ignore just the kernel update and do the rest?

i used this command

#yum update

see "man yum.conf" and edit /etc/yum.conf

list of packages to exclude from updates or installs. This
should be a space separated list. Filename globs *,?,., etc are

list of package names that are kernels - this is really only
here for the kernel updating portion - this should be removed
out in 2.1 series.
