QEMU nor Xen on Fedora 8 cannot do initial GUI install of windows XP

Installed Fedora 8 and Xen. Boot Xen kernal. Launch the Virtualization program. The program allocates the full virtualization and goes through the blue setup windows in XP. The Virtual Machine goes into a reboot and when I launch the virtual machine the first time I get the graphical install and it immediately hangs looking for the folder D:\i386 which is located on the CDROM.

The program is unable to recognize the CDROM. However, Fedora sees the CDROM and the folders required.

I am unable to proceed from there.

I have a ASUS motherboard, AMD 3800 processor, 3 gigs of RAM.

Looking for advise.

winxp on xen

I am having the same issue...
each time i start the vm, it continues the installation
and asks me for the CD, even though i installed from the
CD to start with.
Let me know if you solve this

adding virtual hardware to vmm for winXP install

I figured it out.
1) stop the virtual machine
2) in virt-manager, doubleclick the XP virtual machine
3) it will bring up the virtual machine defaults
4) choose the hardware tab, then add
5) it will bring up "adding new virtual hardware"
6) choose storage device, then cd-rom
7) if you dont know the devicename for your cd,
go to a terminal and run "df"
8) enter your devicename (mine is /dev/sr0)
9 restart virtual machine, and it should work

Great hint!
I had the same problem.
Strange that the CD-Rom is not added automatically to the hardware.

Thanks!

It worked like a charm!

Thank's for the advice.

The only thing here was that I had to delete the original CD drive, and than add a new one like you said.
