Problems with pppd

I've got a Pctel modem using Murray's "pctel-0.9.6.1.tar.gz" drivers.
When I start Wvdial I get this error from pppd daemon:

"The peer system failed (or refused) to authenticate itslef (exit code 11)".

This is my wvdial.conf:

[Modem0]
Modem = /dev/modem
Baud = 57600
SetVolume = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ
Init3 = ATM0
FlowControl = CRTSCTS
[Dialer Defaults]
Username = ******@email.it
Password = *********
Phone = ***********
Stupid Mode = 1
Init3 = ATZ
Inherits = Modem0

Can anybody help me?

misc 11-19-2003 09:34 PM

Should be pppd misconfiguration, such as configuring a local/remote IP address when the remote access server doesn't allow that.

Try again with redhat-config-network or kppp.

doctorv 11-20-2003 04:48 AM

Unfortunely redhat-config-network doesn't work at all, after the configuration it can not activate dev/ppp0 (error 29).
Kppp gives me the same problem of wvdial.... it dials the number but disconnects me when ppp starts.
With RH9 I never had problems but installing old ppp, wvdial and red-hat-config network doesn't get things right.

Thank you for your help!

You've got a serious kernel problem there, a crash of the Linux kernel due to your self-compiled driver.

Quote:

Nov 21 18:14:12 localhost kernel: PCTel device[02:01.0](0x8) found "PCTel Inc HSP MicroModem 56 (rev 02)", iobase=0xc000, irq=9.
Nov 21 18:14:12 localhost kernel: PCTel driver version 0.9.6.1 [5.05c4.27.215 (09142001)] (PCT789) (20020131) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI enabled.
Nov 21 18:14:12 localhost kernel: PCTel driver built on [Linux 2.4.221.2115. nptl i686 i686 "2.4.221.2115. nptl <132118>"] with gccgcc (GCC) 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.21).
Nov 21 18:14:12 localhost kernel: ttyS15 at 0xc000 (irq = 9) is a PCTel
Besides, the driver should have been compiled with "gcc32" (not "gcc"), which would be the same compiler that was used for the kernel:

Do you think I can solve this problem or should I use RH9 untill new drivers are released?

CIAO FEDE.....

http://hepunx.rl.ac.uk/~wmurray/pctel/pctel.html

In this site you can find a patched version of pctel's driver: the page says that were issues with the fedora kernel...... the version is 0.9.6.2, the 0.9.6.1 is the version you'r using right now.
