Problems Printing with FC5
I am trying to print directly to an HP printer via jetdirect but I don't seem to be having any luck.
I have tried priting to the following: HP 8000 HP 8150 HP 4200 Any time I try to print I get the following message: There was a problem sending CUPS test page to printer queue: /usr/bin/lpr: Connection Refused When I checked the print log when it asked if the test page printed ok I got the following: I [16/Jun/2006:09:31:05 -0400] Adding start banner page "none" to job 6. I [16/Jun/2006:09:31:05 -0400] Adding end banner page "none" to job 6. I [16/Jun/2006:09:31:05 -0400] Job 6 queued on "printer" by "root". I [16/Jun/2006:09:31:05 -0400] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 3848) for job 6. I [16/Jun/2006:09:31:05 -0400] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/socket (PID 3849) for job 6. Any one got any ideas of how I can fix this? |
It might be a good idea to tell us what the printer specifically is
besides just being HP. Mark |
The printers are laser jet printers
|
But what particular model of HP laser printer is it?

Here is my particular problem
running fc5 on a amd box. printer is hp officejet g85 connected by usb. printing used to work fine. then suddenly it just stopped. i have uninstalled, reinstalled rebooted etc. when reinstalling the system seems to recognise the printer esp when using the gnome interface. (system/administration/printing etc.) but when i try and print i have the same message as lmcilwain weird that it stopped working. i know the cable and printer work as i can print using a windows machine. i am prepared to do a bit of probing as it is now getting to the stage when i really need to be able to print. |
Never mind. Have sorted out the problem.
installed HPLIP and followed the installation instructions from the sourceforge page. needed about 40mb of dependencies and then worked and still works. including linking my family windoze machines to print from the linux attached printer. |
