I seem to have a problem with installing fedora 8 on my desktop. I used to have fedora 7 installed with VMware workstation on my old computer and it worked fine, but I was forced into a hardware upgrade after the mobo died. I was using a PIV 2.5Ghz processor on a Gigabyte Titan mobo. I now have an Asrock board with a Pentium Duo Core E2180 2Ghz processor. I tried to install the i386 and all it does is lock up. The x86_64 version I tried the LiveDVD but still with no luck. I even tried to install with the intent of wiping out my current os (Win XP Pro). The lockups occur at different points in the install from the inital boot to the point where it is preparing to install the software. What am I doing wrong. any help is welcome.

This could possibly be a memory problem. So I googled for Asrock memory problems and found this:

"With all these good features, it's maybe time to mention some of the shortcomings of this interesting board. First, there are 4 memory sockets on the board, two for DDR and two for DDRII. You can use only 2 of them at the same time and with the maximum supported DIMM size of 1GB it sets the maximum amount of supported memory to 2GB."

If you have memtest available on an install CD I suggest that you run memtest.
