problems installing touchscreen drivers

I just got an EloTouch monitor

I have FC5 (CCRMA)

The drivers at their website say the will work on 2.4 and newer kernels. I followed the instructions supplied by them and made sure that i downloaded the source for my current Kernel version (2.6.16-1.2880-ccrma-rdt), as well as the most recent non ccrma kernel and full suouce just in case the ccrma kernel was cranky about the driver.

So Far all I have managed to get right was unpacking the figgin' driver.
at first I was getting errors that the source directory was not installed. I fixed that by repairing the symlinks that were missing. after trying to compile the driver again, it gets almost through and then exits with an error code (no data given though).

I have tried this with both the ccrma and the vanilla kernel.

In the release notes, it states that newer distros have the driver preloaded and that it can be setup at the OS's install time. Obviously I'm not keen on re-installing 6 hours of CCRMA rpms and kernel packages. Would doing an upgrade to FC6 fix this? Or is there annother avenue I can take?

Also, I have had no luck googling for an rpm of the driver :(

Thanks in advance,
pyrael
