problem with removing packages with yum

Hi,

I am linux noob( yeah another one of those) and I installed FC6 with default webserver extras.

Now I would like to get rid of apache2, mysql, php and some other extra packages, and install LAMP with a stardard linux installation method.

I am trying to use

yum remove package

to get rid of the packages, but it doesn't wanna work somehow.

It just says No Match for argument: apachetop.i386.

I tried to put wild cards, but still doesn't work.

Help will be much appreciated.

Also, I would like to get info on doing LAMP setup

with recent versions of apache, php, and mysql.

I have tried to search (mostly thru google) but did not get any good ones.

If anyone knows where I can find how to do the LAMP setup , with configuration of path and files, let me know the link of the webpage.

Thanks a lot

When referring to packages, you don't put the architecture in the name. In this instance, you probably need to do
Code:
#yum remove apachetop
If you don't know the exact name of a package, you can use -q flag in rpm to get a list of packages that match certain criteria e.g.
Code:
#rpm -qa | grep -i apache
The above will list all packages with "apache" in their name. You can then use "rpm -e" or "yum remove" to uninstall the package/s.

Thanks for the reply redazz.

I left my laptop at work today so I'll prolly try that tomorrow, or maybe end of this week.

Have a good day!
