Problem with power saving mode

Hi Everyone,

I am new to linux switching from windows XP. I am using the latest version of Fedora from their site alongwith the updates.

I have a questions.

1. When i switch on to linux the PC makes i lot of noise. I think the fan over cpu is continously running and the cpu doesn't go to the power saving mode. Also i have set to switch off the monitor after 5 mins, but it does not turn off. By googling i found that in /etc/cpuspeed.conf, i have to insert the line DRIVERS="p4_clockmod".But this did not help. In XP power saving mode is working fine. I would like to enable the power saving mode otherwise i am afraid the cpu will burn out.

Can anyone suggest how i can overcome these problems.

Thanks
sibnath

The CPU won't burn out.

I'm not sure if it comes compiled in the kernel for ACPI and all the other new stuff but it should. Your fans and whatnot don't slow down when you bring up X?
