I'm not sure about your Firefox problem. I suggest getting Internet working and then see where things stand with Firefox. Should you be getting Internet via the same connection you are using for intranet? If so, my first guess would be DNS problems. The way to find out is to run the following 3 commands:

ping localhost
ping 75.126.162.205
ping www.linuxquestions.org
This first command just verifies that your networking is working. (The command pings your own computer.) If the second command works but the third does not, it shows that you actually are getting to the Internet but DNS isn't working.
Post back with your results. Also, if your intranet connection is not how you are supposed to be getting Internet, let me know wheat your setup is.
