Unhappy Problem with KDE system notifications..

I am using FC2 with KDE which comes with it..

The sounds in it are working fine. But recently I found out that the Sound Notifications are not working on my PC. When I try to select a wav file, it does not list it in the select file dialog box, even if i change file type to WAV audio, i.e. i dunno how on earth but The sound notifications area does not allow we to select a wav file. Being FC2, mp3 support is already scraped off.

Anyway, if instead of selecting the file, I type in the complete address, it doesnt play anything. When I change player settings to use "kaboodle" "noatun" "xmms" or "mplayer" the sound start coming.

How do i rollback to normal??

I had the same problem, yours is probably the same, a documented KDE bug where KDE>= 3.2 Check out the following link:

Read the "Sound: System Notification sounds don't work, but other audio works." section, it is at the top of the page. Editing the ~/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc file by hand with vi worked for me, hope it works for you or anyone else with working audio but no system notification.

Thanks... it worked...

this is how my ~/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc looks like now....
(if someone else has the same problem, this might help)

External player=
LastConfiguredApp=KDE System Notifications
Use external player=false

Arts Init=true
KNotify Init=true
Use Arts=true
