Unhappy Problem with FC2-FC3 upgrade on SATA drive: "disabling IRQ 11"

Hi to all,

Looking at bugzilla, this seems to be a fairly common problem, but haven't found any useful solutions as yet.

I have a dual-boot system, with Windows XP and Fedora Core 2, on separate SATA drives controlled via Silicon Image PCI card. I've had no problems installing fedora on my SATA drives with either FC1 or FC2, but when I attempt to run an upgrade from the FC3 CD I get a short message about loading the SATA (which I've forgotten at the mo- sorry, at work!), followed by 'disabling IRQ 11', at which point the process hangs. If I change the IRQ controlling to manual in BIOS, and reserve IRQ11, it simply switches to IRQ 5 and so on.

Has anyone experienced and/or found a workaround for this problem?

Thanks,

Jon

You're not alone there...

I also suffered from the same problem and it seems inherent in all the FC3 kernels redhat are distributing. If you use any custom compiled one it works flawlessly. The only way I got around it was due to the fact that I have my Linux partitions on a PATA drive and so I could disable SATA during installation and kernel recompilation.

There had been a bug about this posted with Redhat but it went nowehere with the only suggestions being boot up with acpi=off, pci=noapic etc all to no avail. If anyone else has some suggestions???
