Problem starting Skype

Hi!
I recently installed CentOS 64 bit.
First: I know, this is a subforum for Fedora, but Skype-Download for Fedora and CentOS are equal (and the commands).
I followed the steps in the CentOS Wiki, but starting Skype as root in a Terminal I got:

No protocol specified

Starting the Icon, I saw for a few seconds "license agreement" and afterwards the windows was closing.
Starting in a Terminal (not root): window opened and closed immediatelly and I got the message

Aborted (core dumped)

and

dmesg | grep Skype

->nothing
Any idea?

Did you try starting sykpe from inside terminal window? That (often) lets you see error messages the are sent to stderr, and might give you a clue.

For what it's worth, I've never had any problem with skype, even after M$ bought the company. (But google does offer an alternative system in gmail . . .)

After a fresh installation of CentOS, Skype works - with poor sound.
