Problem installing FC5 on Athlon
Hi. I decided to upgrade my Athlon from FC3 to FC5. I put the distro DVD
in the drive and booted from it. I get the initial splash screen and boot: prompt. I then press return and the system starts loading but then stops with the messages: ide-cd: cmd 0x5a timed out hdc: lost interrupt then it seems to wait occasionally spitting out the same message. I tried to replace the DVD drive but with the same result. I then tried the CD version of the distro but got the same thing. Finally I gave up and upgraded to FC4 which went without a hitch. Is this s known problem with FC5? It there a magical incantation I need? The system has an Asus a7V8x motherboard with an Athlon processor and a MSI DVD writer. Any ideas? -Jim |
OK, I figured it out. I responded "linux acpi=off" to the boot prompt and
now the install is running. I'll keep quiet now... -Jim |
