Problem and Solution with dual monitors.

I bought a second monitor today, and installed it. When I set up dual head in the display settings (FC4 Gnome) I couldn't get X to start. The NVIDIA logo just freaked out.

I dove into the config file and deleted what I thought was unnecessary information, and added to one monitor what I thought was missing (based on the main monitor).

Both screens or displays were trying to use different video drivers. One using the compiled nvidia and the other using the default nv. I think that this was the main problem....but adding a second monitor seemed to kill x. For unexperienced people this is a deal breaker.

Where is the best place to report this problem?

Does anyone have any input? IE is my assumption on the cause correct?

you might want to check out Appendix G or P from Nvidia's readme ...
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...676/README.txt

That is esentially what I did to get it working....but one would hope that the display configuration utility would write valid config files. ;)

I don't think it's too much to ask.

How do you find the BusID of your Nvidia card? From Nvidia's documentation, you need it for 2 individual displays, but it does not tell you how to discover that information.

i've recently installed fedore, im used to mandriva, found how to configure the display pretty quickly, changed the properties to my desires, hit apply, restarted my computer, and no change, checked i had changed it, and checked in the file it writes to, all have changed but it seems like X isnt actully loading that config file, has anyone got ne ideas

i never figured out what the config tool in fedora was doing, i ended up dicecting the config files from my old mandiva instalation, and that sems to have worked :)
