printing problems after Fedora upgrade

Ever since upgrading my Dell Intel box from RedHat 9 to Fedora Core 2, I have had a problem with printing text files.

If a file is printed via "lpr foo.txt", the output seems to be shifted a bit to the left, threby knocking out the first couple of columns in the file. However, "enscript foo.txt" works OK, as does
"a2ps foo.txt".

Each of our printers is a HP LaserJet 4000 with a network card. I have tried changing various settings via printconf-gui, such as changing the printer driver from HP 4000 to Generic Postscript, as well as selecting and deselecting various driver options, such as "Prerender Postscript" and "Convert text to Postscript", all to no avail.
