Having had my say on preupgrade in the past, I felt it only fair to report that F16 -> F17 was notably uneventful. Worked just like you would hope.

Wouldn't let me jump sraight to F18 (still beta), even when I selected the "include beta" box, but I can live with that.

Looks like we will be getting a new tool for upgrading F17 -> F18. The following was taken from

Preupgrade deprecated for Fedora 18
Preupgrade does not at present and will not ever work for upgrading to Fedora 18, or any version after that. It was replaced by FedUp.

Thanks - I saw the note on Fedup in the F18 release notes; figured either would work (once I got to F17). Apparently not.

And just for completeness, I just did a F17 -> F18 upgrade (32-bit) using fedup. Posting from the said system.
Worked as advertised.

Gotta say it looks like the devs bit off more than they could chew with F18. What with the delays, the new installer (and its limitations) - grub to a partition particularly in my case - and other rough edges, it just doesn't look a finished product.
May wait awhile before updating systems I really care about.
