Please help getting ipw3945 wireless to work.
 

I've been dealing with a lot of frustration trying to get my wireless up on FC6, so please forgive me if this comes out as 1 part question, 1 part rant.

A friend and Linux user since Red Hat 6 recently convinced me to try FC6 even though I've never had good luck with Fedora. But after several hours, I still can't get my wireless to work. It's an Intel Pro Wireless 3945 card, which I know has problems with a lot of linux distros. I've searched the internet and found no less than 5 different and partially contradictory howtos from people that have supposedly gotten their cards to work. I've tried each method in turn, but no joy. Does anyone have a method that is guaranteed to work on this card under FC6?

Now comes the rant part. To think that I left openSuSE 10.1 for this mess. I've been using openSuSE for over a year now, and I don't care at all about the recent Novell announcement. For me, SuSE has always been the one distro that actually works out of the box with no tinkering. I mean really, should I be expected to spend over 8 hours trying to get basic hardware functionality going on my system? The correct answer to that question is "no." Windows picks up the card with no problems. SuSE picks up the card with no problems. Why not Fedora? I understand if Red Hat won't include other things that most people consider part of a modern, complete desktop (like Flash, mp3 support, etc.) due licensing agreements, but why not allow people to use the basic hardware of their machines?

Atrpms has ipw3945 software (kernel modules, drivers) that you should, hopefully, be able to use by substituting them for the rpms applicable for your kernel.
