PHP does not show any error message (when i try to connect with MySQL !)

I have just installed fedora 5 which comes complete with PHP, apche and mysql. Apache and MySql work fine but php works when i have code like "echo "rean";" but when i try to connect to mysql using mysql_connect($localhost,..... NOTHING appears!!!

also php doesnt show any errors. I tried to change the code above to "echoy "rean";" and weirdly there are no warnings or error message when i run the page over firefox!

please help!

Are you running LAMP on a 64 bit machine?
ing as far as I know it does not yet work with php with apache 2.0?

I am try out Fedora 6 as I have not yet go any distro to work with php on 64 bit.

I updated to the latest Mysql five from mysql in my tests, perhaps you could try that if you are using a 32 bit machine.

i am running a 64 bit machine. I have fixed the error where php doesnt show any errors by going to the php.ini file and making changes to the code "display_errors=Off" and making it off .

i am now trying to make php recognize the mysql and have downloaded php-mysql and I hope it works.

thanks
