I just un-binned a downloaded j2re-1_4_2_13-linux-i586-rpm.bin so that there is a new file on the Desktop that says j2re-1_4_2_13-linux-i586-rpm.

But the latter file icon (a cardboard box with a sheet of paper standing up in it) has, in its upper right, a pencil icon with a red ghostbusters slash through it. What do I do in terminal?

I think that should help:
chmod a+x j2re-1_4_2_13-linux-i586-rpm.bin

rpm -Uvh ~/Desktop/j2re-1_4_2_13-linux-i586-rpm
