PAE Kernel

I really don't know if this has been asked before or even what the search terms for it might be but here it goes.....

I have a P4 w/HT w/1GB RAM and the processor is EMt64 bit capable. I don't want to run 64-bit but I have seen something on Fedora's website about Physical Address Extension. Would this possibly increase my system performance? Would this cause more problems than it is worth? If it isn't all that much trouble, how would I go about installing it during the initial system install process?

Another question, what does this version of Kernel do anyway?

thank you so much for any help. This site rules!! I learn something each time I visit here!!

You don't need PAE with one gig of RAM. If you had four or more gigs and wanted to see it all without a 64-bit OS, then you'd need PAE.

What is PAE-kernel ?

Thanks

It's probably enabled anyway, you just don't need it with one gig.

Hope that clears it up for you.

You certainly don't want to use PAE if you have an Nvidia graphics card - those drivers don't support it. Not to mention the point made before that it's only needed if you want to address 4GB of RAM or more.
