Package Manager Performance Issue

On my FC5 box, Add/Remove Software takes a very long time to gather info on installed packages. top shows no processes running, except Xorg at 1% CPU.

After 20 minutes, still not finished. Has anyone else experienced this, and what can be done to fix it?

try downing your firewall ... or insert a rule that allows traffic to / from loopback ... short of that ... dunno.
