Opening a new /home/user


FC10/Kde
I want to open a new home directory to replace old michael:michael
to new home directory Michael:michael, will Linux allow me to do this by using a Capitol "M" Michael:michael ?

Are you trying to rename the Username with a capital.
You will need to use

usermod -l michael Michael

This will change the Login user ID, which will in turn change the ownership of files. Since is the name your changing and not the user ID.
You will need to to this as root and ideally not be logged in at the time.
