open new window for every child folder?

Is this just a native Linux thing, or is there a way to disable it?

Are you using Konqueror or Nautilus?
Or something different?

You _really_ need to give us more information

p.S. Yes, I'm sure there is a way to disable it. Have a look around!

If you are using KDE then you can disable this feature by running kcontrol (control center). Click on KDE Components -> File Manager -> Open folders in serarate windows

actually i noticed the same thing.. i'm a kde user and it doesn't do that but then i set up another box with gnome and it just loves bringing up new windows
i don't use it much so i haven't even bothered but i feel for ya man
that stuff is sooooooooo annoying

oops! Sorry for the lack of info.

I'm running Gnome, FC4 on an HP nx9010 laptop (if that helps).

So it sounds like in KDE it is an option, but not so much in Gnome? Is KDE a lot better and worth the switch?

Thanks.

"Is KDE a lot better and worth the switch?"

I used to have my system set up so each user could log into KDE or Gnome. My Gnome and KDE desktops were very different. Then KDE and Gnome began sharing desktop files to the point where it is impossible to set them up very differently. Now I just use KDE. As to switching from one to the other I don't think that it makes enough difference to be worth the hassle.
