so i have downloaded fedora core 3
i am a general home user. will fedora provides all those thing that windows does.

i have 80GB hdd. how should i partition my hdd. whenever i install linux i give one swap and one / partition.
i have strongly decided i will not use windows again. so i need to know abt working in linux, where can find the ebooks and tutors.
there are plenty of guides around, the rute one in my signature for example, as well has many specific references, as can be found in your linuxanswers subsite. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/answers.php

1. No it will not. It provides a lot of the things that Windows does but not all. The differences have been well hashed out throughout these forums and in other places.
2. Only you will know if you can completely replace Windows with Fedora. Time will tell.
I think that with a bit of time and effort you CAN replace windows with Fedora, however you will probably realise that if you do, you will be using you computer very differently than you did when you used windows.
It all depends on a persons wants/needs. No one can definitively tell someone else they can replace Windows with Linux. It varies from user to user. It all depends on what you are willing to change/give up.

Yeh, like can you live without spyware and viruses?!
IMHO, anything Windows can do, Linux can do better. There are a few programs which haven't been ported to Linux yet but those programs didn't appear on Windows overnight either.
The only time I use Windows is when I'm giving tech support for the virus mill.
I originally started messing with freebsd, moved to gentoo and now use fedora core 3, so far no problems.
I am seriously considering changing our freebsd squid/dansguardian/firewall over to fedora at the school where I work.
Found this link v.useful when getting to grips with fedora, enjoy.
I'm not saying at all that the user shouldn't make a switch, he should. Obviously I use Linux. I haven't used Windows regularly for almost 5 years. The only times I use a Windows machine are when I have to help someone or when I want to do my taxes. The original poster asked if Fedora will do everything that Windows does. To flatly say yes would be misleading. To let him know there could be some hiccups along the way but that the switch is well worth it is more accurate. I should have been more clear in my earlier posts. There are so many postings in this forum on switching that starting another thread on making the switch is a waste of everyone's time. Sorry if I seemed a little cantankerous earlier. I have an 8, 5, and 2 year old that can elevate my stress level at times.
