Offline Yum Repository questions

I was trying to make an offline repository to keep the downloaded RPMs and install in another computer without any internet connection.
I used createrepo tool.

My precess was.
Keeping all rpms under a directory (which contained several sub dirs)
running createrepo -pd
created a repo file in the /etc/yum.repos.d/myrepo.repo
and enabled it

I want to know some "exact" process and how the official repositories are created, and what dows the different files do in the repo. and exactly how does yum work.

I got the repo in a dvd but in a pretty bad way, which might not work in other systems without some configuration.
I want to know how to make an rpm file which is to be installed to access my offline repo then use it in any system.
