Nvidia Install

My problem is after the install and typing init 5, i dont get the splash screen and i cant even see the logon screen the display is out to lunch. grey strip on the side white on the bottom blue in the middle. and you can only see the mouse when yo move it to the bottom of the screen and then it makes a vertical line that goes all the way to the top of the screen.

My computer:
HP Pavillion ZV5000 Laptop, 64bit 3000
Nvidia GeForce 440 64M
15.4" widescreen flatpanel lcd
running Fedora Core ix86 and trying to install the x86 7174 nvidia driver
this is a fresh install aswell running 2.6.10 kernel and all updates

Here is my Xorg.conf altered so that i could get the computer to boot back into X properly.

# file minus the extension (like ".txt" or ".db"). There is normally
# no need to change the default.
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
