Nvidia Driver issues

Im runnig fedora core three and im trying to install the nvidia drivers.
I press ctl+alt+f1 to bring up the console and then I type "Init 3" and this is what happens:
"Starting pcmcia: ok
starting irq balance:
Starting LM_sensors: ok
Starting automount: no mount points defined: ok
Starting Anacron: ok

now this is the point where I believe it hangs....
I have a grey mouse cursor which i can move around and select the above text with, I have a blinking line which I thought at first would be where I would be able to type text commands, but my keyboard does not respond at all in any way. If I could get back into a working console I could install my nvidia drivers. how do I do this?

my keyboard does not respond. hitting enter does absolutely nothing. I even borrowed someone elses keyboard and gave it a try and still it did not work. can anyone help me or am I completely screwed?
(edit: never mind I changed inittab and got into text only console, but I am now haveing another problem I ran the nvidia driver program
sh nvidia-linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg0.run
and it runs the installation program comes up and then as I try to install it gives me a CC error,
Because of this I looked online and found this line of command and tried it:
export CC=gcc32
and i stil get the same error, does this mean i need to install something first, and if so what? and where can I get it?)

What is the CC error, do you have GCC installed? Please post.

I downloaded the gcc32 rpm and it said i already had gcc32 insalled.
The error that i get is as follows:
"Error: Unable to find the development tool 'cc' in your path; please make sure that you have the package gcc installed. If gcc is installed on your system please check that 'cc' is in your path"

Is there anyway that I could manually install gcc and then put 'cc' in the path?

I would try to force gcc back on, just to make sure

rpm -ivh gccversion.rpm --force

Then grab the g++ package as well. Then try this again.

Sorry, dude, didn't mean to be a smart-ass. Wish all problems were that easy to solve.

My best guess re the keyboard problem is that you should try disabling the "rhgb" (= "Red Hat Graphical Boot") kernel parameter in GRUB (or LILO), to boot in text-only mode.

Regarding installing your nVidia drivers: You may already have tried this, but the Unofficial Fedora FAQ gives detailed instructions on how to install the drivers using pre-packaged RPMs via YUM. That's by far the easiest way to install them, and it worked well for me. (And it made a big difference in how snappy the UI feels.)

The FAQ also gives manual installation instructions for those times where the nVidia RPMs won't work.

Regarding "cc": It should be in /usr/bin. Do you have the "Development Tools" package installed?
