NTFS (windows partion) viewing

Hey everyone i am a noobie to the fedora world but have somewhat knowledge in linux. I was wandering how or if it even possible to mount a windows harddrive in fedora. It is not already mounted in /mnt I have tried the fallowing so far;

----------
[root@localhost neorion]# mount /dev/hda1
mount: can't find /dev/hda1 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

[root@localhost neorion]# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt
mount: fs type ntfs not supported by kernel

----------

So i take it that ntfs cannot be supported. Is there any fix or can i update the kernel or what to make is so this is possible?

- Help is really appreciated. Gotta love the linux community

Thanks in advance - NeorioN

Ya have to recompile the kernel. Try this:

cd /usr/src/linux-2.4
make xconfig
klik Filesystems, klik NTFS read.

NOTE: YOU NEED TO PUT THIS KERNEL INTO AFFECT. I DON'T know how to do that....

Hi, please check out

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/201618

The first thing you need to do is make a directory under /mnt. Do
mkdir /mnt/ntfs

This would create a directory and when you mount you say
mount /dev/hda11 /mnt/ntfs

It is always a good idea to search LQ database for answers

No need to recompile your kernel.

Check out the Linux NTFS Project homepage: http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/

Download the RPM for the kerel your running, the 2.6.7 rpm isnt up yet - they usually have an updated RPM within a few days of a kernel release.
